The Tuscany roads
We came to Tuscany region in a summer morning, late July, when it was a bit hot in day-time and much cooler at night. It was full of sunshine, and we didn’t need any air-con and fan during all the time there. This is my 2nd time visiting Tuscany, but the last time I traveled around the region by bus & taxi hence it was quite passive and inflexible for me to explore the beauty. So this time we decided to hire a car to be able to go all around the region, to wherever and at any time we want. Having watched the movie “Under the Tuscan sun” long before going here thus she had really good impression about the region.
We planned our trip to stay at an agriturismo, which means “farm-stay”. This is, to us, one of the best ways to experience and feel the real life of Italy’s countryside. I won’t talk much about it here, but it’s good to find out more about agriturismo if you wanna travel and live like the locals (mostly farmers), one good source is here. After searching for a very short while (this time we traveled in our own way, the night before we would be thinking about where we will be the next morning so we didn’t have much time to plan in details), we chose this agriturismo with the surprisingly fast response and warm welcome from the owners, its name is Podere Tegline. If you go to the website linked under the name, you’ll see lots of wonderful photos about that place and that inspired us a lots while travelling around.
To explore the region most effectively, we planned to go thru the back-bone road of Tuscany, which is the famous Chiantigiana road. If you visit Tuscany and want to have a really scenic drive, going thru this road is a must, as it is once said to be one of the Top 10 greatest roads in Europe and you can find short introduction here as well. “..If you ask about the best driving roads in Tuscany then Via Chiantigiana, also known as SR222 or the Chianti road, will always be mentioned. We are not going to disagree – it truly is one of the most beautiful and scenic roads to drive in Tuscany…” (quoted from the article)
Along the roads, there are sunflower fields and the very peculiar scenes to Tuscany.
And sometimes we encountered an village like this
She took few photos with her iPhone and posted one of them into her Instagram
We passed by the famous Vitaleta Chapel below for which she “complained” that I had not taken her there. In fact we tried to find the way to go to the top of the hill where the chapel located, but failed, as we didn’t want to spend much time on this while we were in the highway.
On the next few days, we went thru out and visited different parts of the region, including Chianti (Castellina, Radda), Montalcino, Asciano, Crete Senesi, Montepulciano, Pienza, San Quirico d’Orcia, etc. This picture was taken in Pienza, we added in the water-color effect and printed it out to hang at our home.
When we were at Pienza, we also watched a wedding ceremony by chance at church which I once mentioned in this post. I know seeing this brings her the peaceful feelings, as usual : )
The owner of our farm-stay recommended us to try the most famous in-town ice cream (gelato) which is located in Castellina. We didn’t remember that until passing by it accidentally, the name is L’ Antica Delizia, and of course took our chance to give it a try.
One day, we came back “home” (our agriturismo) at around 8pm. There was still sunshine as at early-sunset time, we took some photos with the sheeps resting down the hill, and also with a Samoyed dog looking after the sheeps =))
The front part of our farm-stay looks like this. The sunlight was a bit red, mixed with the sunset color, and the photo below reflects quite exactly what the sunshine color was that day.
And here are other views from the outside the agriturismo…
…with a few horses wandering around
Thanks to the very cute Fiat 500 for taking us all the time, there was a scratch I made while looking around for scene in a small alley =))
You, Me and Sunshine: Those three are enough to make us happy, is it right, my girl? When we meet next, we will again enjoy the sunshine till it fades everyday, the sunshine sparkling through the leaves, sparkling in our eyes…
